چکیده
ABSTRACT We present a comprehensive census of X-ray millisecond pulsars (MSPs) in 29 Galactic globular clusters (GCs), including 68 MSPs with confirmed luminosities and 107 upper limits. compile previous studies GC MSPs, add new analyses six (PSRs J1326–4728A, J1326–4728B, J1518+0204C, J1717+4308A, J1737–0314A, J1807–2459A) discovered five GCs. Their spectra are well described by single blackbody model, power-law or combination them, ranging from 1.9 × 1030to 8.3 1031 erg s−1. find that most detected have between ∼1030 3 Redback relatively bright MSP population ∼2 1031–3 1032 Black widows show bimodal distribution luminosities, eclipsing black ∼7 1030 2 s−1, while the two non-eclipsing much fainter, LX 1.5–3 suggesting an intrinsic difference populations. estimate total number 36 GCs considering correlation stellar encounter rate GCs, suggest 600 1500 exist these Finally, we X-ray-detectable bulge, finding 1–86 > 1033 20–900 s−1 should be detectable there.

Formation of Millisecond Pulsars in Globular Clusters
In this contribution we discuss how neutron stars are produced and retained in globular clusters, outlining the most important dynamical channels and evolutionary events that affect the population of mass-transferring binaries with neutron stars and result in the formation of recycled pulsars. We confirm the importance of electron-capture supernovae in globular clusters as the major supplier of...
متن کاملChandra on Millisecond Pulsars in Globular Clusters
We summarize the x-ray properties of the complete samples of millisecond pulsars (MSPs) detected in our Chandra observations of the globular clusters 47 Tuc and NGC 6397. The 47 Tuc MSPs are predominantly soft sources suggestive of thermal emission from the neutron star polar cap and have x-ray luminosities in a surprisingly narrow range (L x ∼1–4 ×10 30 erg s −1). The single MSP in NGC 6397 is...
متن کاملThe Orbital Eccentricities of Binary Millisecond Pulsars in Globular Clusters
Low-mass binary millisecond pulsars (LMBPs) are born with very small orbital eccentricities, typically of order e i 10 ?6 {10 ?3. In globular clusters, however, higher eccentricities e f e i can be induced by dynamical interactions with passing stars. Here we show that the cross section for this process is much larger than previously estimated. This is because, even for initially circular binar...
متن کاملChandra Studies of Millisecond Pulsars in Globular Clusters
The high resolution X-ray imaging and broad-band moderate resolution spectra enabled by the ACIS cameras on the Chandra X-ray Observatory have opened a new window in our study of millisecond pulsars (MSPs). Given the large excess of MSPs in globular clusters vs. the field, globular clusters are the favored sites for MSP study. Globular clusters (GCs) offer advantages of both known distance and ...
متن کاملMillisecond Pulsars in X-Ray Binaries
Despite considerable evidence verifying that millisecond pulsars are spun up through sustained accretion in low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs), it has proven surprisingly difficult to actually detect millisecond X-ray pulsars in LMXBs. There are only 5 accretion-powered millisecond X-ray pulsars known among more than 80 LMXBs containing neutron stars, but there are another 11 “nuclear-powered” mil...
